The Port is proud to play a major role in Lake Charles’ nationally recognized economic success yet again.
Gaming, LNG and commerce are among the reasons Southern Business and Development magazine has named Lake Charles a winner for the ninth consecutive year.
The city’s gaming resorts operate on Port property, the transfer of liquefied natural gas is facilitated by the Calcasieu Ship Channel, and a host of local industries and businesses depend on the Port to move materials and cargo.
Michael Randle, Southern Business and Development publisher, said in a statement to the American Press that Lake Charles easily secured this year’s award — and has been doing so in similar fashion for years.
“The Lake Charles region has been a nationwide leader in the petrochemical and LNG industries for years; however, this latest run is unprecedented,” Randle told the newspaper.
Small markets are selected based on capital investment and number of jobs created.
The run is not over, according to George Swift, president/CEO of the Southwest Louisiana Economic Development Alliance.
“If you’ve been keeping up with the announced projects and projections, we’re about 40 percent complete with the construction phase,” he said. “As projects are completed, permanent jobs are brought in.”
