Future-minded Port makes $600,000 investment in McNeese, Sowela programs

SUPPORTING McNEESE, SOWELA: The Port of Lake Charles is investing $300,000 each in programs at McNeese State University and Sowela Technical Community College to maintain strong area economic growth and to help meet the demand for workers in industrial expansion projects and other fields.

The Port support will benefit:

  • Science, technology, engineering and mathematic (STEM) programs and equipment at McNeese.
  • Hospitality training in the culinary program at Sowela to meet current worker demands at area casinos, restaurants and hotels.

The Port’s investments are part of larger mission as an engine and facilitator for economic development in Southwest Louisiana. Port-owned properties are the home of major industrial infrastructure, such as the liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities along the Calcasieu Ship Channel, and both the L’Auberge and Golden Nugget casino resorts in Lake Charles.
McNeese and Sowela will each get $100,000 annually for three years.
