September was National Rice Month, and to honor this significant crop, the Port of Lake Charles partners annually with the Calcasieu-Cameron Rice Growers to host the Annual Rice Cook-Off. This festive event brings together Family and Consumer Science students from fifteen area middle and high schools, who showcase their culinary skills in creating innovative rice-based dishes. The Port proudly sponsors the awards luncheon, celebrating the next generation of chefs and raising awareness of the importance of rice to Louisiana’s economy. This annual event highlights the Port’s dedication to supporting local agriculture and the vibrant community surrounding the rice industry.
