Port of Lake Charles Commissioners to Attend Breakbulk Americas in Houston

Connecting With the Breakbulk Industry

The Port of Lake Charles will be represented at Breakbulk Americas this September in Houston, where port commissioners will connect with leaders across the project cargo, heavy-lift, maritime, logistics and industrial shipping sectors.

Breakbulk Americas is one of the leading events for the breakbulk and project cargo industry, bringing together ports, carriers, freight forwarders, equipment providers, shippers and logistics professionals from across the Americas and around the world. This year’s conference will take place September 22–23 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.

Showcasing the Port of Lake Charles

The Port of Lake Charles will have a booth at the event, giving commissioners the opportunity to meet directly with companies moving cargo that does not fit neatly into standard containers. Breakbulk cargo often includes oversized, heavy or complex shipments such as industrial machinery, construction components, forest products, steel, wind energy equipment and other project cargo.

For the Port of Lake Charles, the conference is a natural fit.

A Gulf Coast Gateway for Specialized Cargo

Located along the Calcasieu Ship Channel in Southwest Louisiana, the Port is a proven Gulf Coast gateway for breakbulk, specialty, heavy-lift and project cargo. Its public facilities, deepwater access, experienced workforce, on-site rail service and nearby interstate connections make it well positioned to support cargo that requires careful planning, specialized handling and reliable transportation options.

The Port’s presence at Breakbulk Americas also provides an opportunity to highlight the strength of the Lake Charles Harbor and Terminal District. The Port manages the Calcasieu Ship Channel and operates within a district that supports industrial development, maritime commerce and economic growth throughout Southwest Louisiana.

Supporting Cargo Movement and Regional Growth

As one of the nation’s top-10 port districts by cargo tonnage, the Port of Lake Charles plays an important role in connecting regional industry to global markets. Its facilities support a wide range of cargo needs, from lumber and agricultural products to industrial components and other high-value shipments that require flexible handling capabilities.

At the conference, commissioners will be able to discuss the Port’s capacity, location and long-standing experience with companies looking for dependable Gulf Coast solutions. The event also gives the Port a platform to strengthen relationships with existing partners while introducing new shippers, manufacturers and logistics providers to the advantages of doing business in Lake Charles.

Built for Breakbulk Needs

Breakbulk cargo requires more than dock space. It requires coordination, infrastructure, equipment, workforce experience and access to multiple modes of transportation. The Port of Lake Charles brings those pieces together through deepwater marine access, rail connectivity, highway access and room for cargo staging and development.
